Uncle John was born on the same date as me, and was my "godfather." During his time in the navy, he would sometimes stay at our house with my mother (his sister Marcella) my dad Tom. My brother Francis and myself were very young (Judith was not born then) and were always excited when he came to stay. On one time, he gave Francis and myself a plastic "Navy Issue" cereal bowl each as a present. We used these for breakfast every day for years, and for some reason they became very important in our daily routine! This may be a very small thing in the complex lives we all lead, but even now, when I grab a bowl for my cornflakes, I still have a brief though of Uncle John, and he will always have a place in my heart.
