Dad used to love singing this song - which I remember him saying he'd heard cheerleaders singing to encourage an American football team. But it must be my mind playing tricks, much more likely he heard it watching the Lucille Ball musical Best Foot Forward (1943). The song is called "Buckle Down Winsocki" but the next line is "you can win Winsocki if you only knuckle down". That was the line he liked - I think it was the smallness of the 'just do your best' spirit he liked, in a sentimental way, and the humorous optimism. The song just brings back some of the humour, optimism and energy that was so much a part of how he lived.
